![]() My only drawback is there are no scholarships for senior citizens. I stopped and started many times throughout life but decided this was the time to finish what I had initially started many years ago. Therefore that is one of the reasons for completing my bachelor's degree. As we get older, I feel like social security is not going to fulfill our economic needs. I have talked to many senior citizens who compliment me on my courage of going back to college. I would like to see the college encourage them to do so. There are many young students but I think there is a common misconception that senior citizens or older people do not want to return to college. I would like to see other older people commit to finishing, or just getting a degree. I am a 63-year-old female who returned to complete my bachelor's degree. I think it would be very interesting if a seminar was held around the multiple ways the students can take in and act on information. However, I think that Penn State should help guide its students to find their own interpretations of the information that they receive. Whether famous or people who preach out of their own will, my school is very open about free speech which I love. I am very privileged to attend a school that is known for having many different speakers. I believe that Penn State has the potential to build a strong investigative spirit amongst its students. This is my favorite part about Penn State, the family like community. They cared about my mental health and the friends I interacted with to help guide me toward my many goals. I've also had teachers who truly cared for me as a person. People are excited to see similar faces, reach out, and smile! You're guaranteed to find a place to fit in. Sophomore: Penn State also reminds me of home, because of the strong community feeling. The university also has a longstanding history of student activism work, that dates back to the Vietnam War, this student activism have paved the way for a wealth of student resources on campus, and an active and engaged student body. While a large school also means large 100 and 200 level course lecture halls most professors in the social sciences are open to meet regularly with students. The vast majority of professors I have encountered are genuinely invested ins student success, especially once you get o higher level small discussion courses. In particular, the political science and gender and women's studies programs - as I am sure with others - provide ample opportunities for students to get involved in research, internships, and professional development outside of the classroom. Junior: University of Wisconsin - Madison is a big school with over 40,000 students, but the campus provides a lot a ways for students to find their niche. Classes were still flex when I graduated. As I attended FSU during the pandemic, I experienced the emergency move out of dorms and the rush to online classes in the spring of 2020. It was an excellent way to see what I had learned minoring in art history in action and in-person finally after so many years! Speaking of in-person, I was able to have many in-person classes but many of my classes were also online. I went to Florence, Italy and it was truly an unforgettable experience. I also studied abroad with FSU International Programs. I also learned a lot of leadership skills from being in my sorority. My freshman year, I joined a sorority on campus and lived in the house for two years too! This was a great way to get involved and do some community service as well as meeting many new friends. I found that this was an amazing school with many opportunities and organizations which I participated in. Alum: I attended Florida State University from 2019-2022, completing my degree in three years. ![]()
